General Overview T'Risa displays all of the reserve and decorum one expects of the typical Vulcan, though there is possibly more of a human stoic to be seen in her actions than a Vulcan one. She is forthright in the company of people who have shown her opinion is welcome. She has many interests, though at the end of the day, reading Elizabeth Bishop with a cup of Vulcan Spiced Tea is one of her unabashed pleasures.

Personal History It was the year 2375 that T'Risa would decide to become a Starfleet Officer. She just didn't know it yet.

T'Risa herself was born in 2341 to Satek and Maarika Yannatou, a pair of oceanographers who had met two years earlier at an oceanography conference in the Rela province on Vulcan. For two scientists (one of whom was Vulcan) who were committed to lives based on reason and science, the relationship between Satek and Maarika was irrational from the start. The relationship ended a year after T'Risa's birth, when Maarika became involved in the Galaxy Class development project (specifically Cetacean Operations). Satek considered Maarika's involvement in the project an abandonment of the principles of pure scientific research. After the separation of her parents, T'Risa would spend an equal amount of time growing up on both the Mediterranean and the Voroth Sea. Though T'Risa displays the typical Vulcan reserve and decorum, she owes as much to Zeno and Seneca the Younger as she does to Surak and T'Plana-Hath.

As T'Risa grew up, her mother became more and more involved in Federation and Starfleet projects, while her father seemed determined to distance himself from the same. T'Risa appeared to be disinterested in involving herself in her parents' unspoken dispute, primarily focusing on her studies .

By the age of thirty-seven, T'Risa had doctorates in marine biology, physical oceanography and number theory, and was considered a rising star in the field of oceanography, both in the Federation and beyond. Her father had become a recluse on Vulcan since the Dominion War, while her mother had spent the War as a house prisoner on occupied Betazed. After the war, her mother started serving as a scientific advisor for several Federation diplomatic missions. Although T'Risa herself had been in San Francisco during the Breen attack, her actions appeared as if she had been untouched by the War. She was "in the world, but not of it."

Then the Voyager arrived home.

Among the wealth of knowledge that the Voyager brought back, one encounter in particular caught T'Risa's attention: The Waters. A good deal of the initial information was screened and imcomplete, but the idea of a cube of water floating in space, holding a unique ecosystem...the concept was intriguing to T'Risa.

After some considerable thought (and support from her mother, though she became more estranged from her father), T'Risa entered the academy. She focused on astrophysics and the like, perceiving a need to expand her scientific "prowess." After graduation, she rose in rank and responsibility, proving herself capable again and again, before gaining her current position as Chief Science Officer of the Sutherland.
